Fractals Animated in 3D

OK, I’m pretty excited about this new technique I discovered to animate fractals in 3D. I spent about 3 hours last night messing around with Chaoscope and something called Ani4chaoscope, which creates batches of images that can be strung together to animate the fractal. The results of my labors are below. This 30 second animation has 300 images.

By the way, the background music is by Robin Guthrie and Harold Budd. It’s a clip I edited using Audacity – the song is “And Then I Turned Away”.

Update: here’s another animation – a little longer this time, and higher quality – with background music by the American composer Daniel Lentz. The piece is entitled “Lascaux”, and what’s really interesting is the fact that it is performed entirely on rubbed wine glasses.
