Back in December, I made this kaleidoscope with Geometer’s Sketchpad, added music by Anathema (from their Hindsight album), and posted it on my courses’ Moodle pages for my students. They were gearing up to take their Fall semester exams, and they needed some stress relief!

Anathema: We’re Here Because We’re Here
I know I’m sounding like a paid hack for the K Scope label, but honestly, they are putting out the most amazing music these days. The latest release to grab me and not let go is Anathema’s We’re Here Because We’re Here. Quite simply, it is an extraordinary work, full of spiritual struggle and hope. Click here for a far better review than I could hope to write.
I ordered the 2-disc set from their website (click on the picture above), which includes a DVD-A with a 5.1 surround mix that is stunning. I haven’t stopped listening to it for 3 weeks now.
New K-Scope Podcast
One of my favorite labels, K Scope , has started a new podcast. Steven Wilson, Riverside, and Pineapple Thief are all artists connected with K Scope. The label has found a nice niche in the music world by focusing on what it calls “Post Progressive” music.
This first podcast features an interview with Steven Wilson regarding his solo album Insurgentes (and my favorite album of 2009), some music from Pineapple Thief, North Atlantic Oscillation (whose upcoming album, Grappling Hooks, sounds very promising) and Anathema. All in all, an auspicious beginning.
