Areas of Regular Polygons

My Geometry students always have difficulty with this topic. There are so many parts involved: sides, perimeter, radius, apothem… not to mention the need to understand and apply trigonometry!

So here is the latest addition to my Geometry screencast library – an exciting explanation of how to calculate the areas of regular polygons:


Geometry All Around Us

Here are some pictures I took around campus (Harpeth Hall School, Nashville, TN) that I use in my geometry course’s tests and worksheets. My students really respond positively to problems when a picture of a real object is used. I use Geometer’s Sketchpad to overlay the segments, labels, and measurements.
